Someone cannot see a screen

A teammate says a screen has gone, or a button will not work. Before you change anything, ask them to read out the message they got. It names the cause.

What they sawWhat it meansWhere it is fixed
"Your role doesn't allow this action."The role they hold at that outlet does not grant itRoles & access, on the Team screen
"You don't have access to this workspace."They hold no active membership at that outletTheir card on the Team screen
"Only the business owner can perform this action."No role grants it, and none can be made toNowhere — the owner does it themselves

Cause one: the role

Permissions belong to a role, not to a person. Full is read and write, View is read only, and a dash is nothing at all. Anything not granted is denied rather than assumed, so a permission nobody has ticked is a permission nobody has.

Writing implies reading, because nobody usefully edits a screen they cannot open. The reverse does not hold: some permissions are a single action — recording a payment, deleting an item — and granting view alone leaves the action off.

Four to start with. Edit them, or build your own.

Four roles to start with. Widening one widens everybody who holds it.

Change the role's permissions, or move the person to a role that already has them. Either way it takes effect the next time they act, at every outlet, and it affects everybody else holding that role. Roles and permissions has the full table of what each of the four starts with.

Cause two: the outlet

A role is held at an outlet, not at a business. Grace Lin can be a Manager at Mill Street and a Cashier at your second outlet, and her buttons change when she switches between them — so establish which outlet she was on before you touch her role at all.

If she holds no active membership at an outlet, she does not get a thin version of it. She gets nothing, and the outlet is not in her picker. "I cannot find Mill Street" is therefore a membership question, not a permission one, and a suspended membership behaves exactly like no membership: that outlet disappears, her others carry on. See Access is per outlet.

Two things this is not

It is not the device, and it is not the screen being slow to catch up. The buttons the dashboard draws come from the same role resolution the server uses to allow or refuse the action, so what somebody can see and what they are allowed to do do not disagree. If a screen is missing, access is missing.
